The bishop of Iceland, Agnes M. Sigurðardóttir, will introduce the project One story – One step in Hallgrímskirkja Church. The project is made in collaboration with Samtökin ’78 – the National Queer Organisation of Iceland. Its main purpose is to bring to light and learn from the history of discrimination against queer people within the church. The first step is to collect personal stories of prejudice and the The Evangelical Lutheran church of Iceland’s opposition to the human rights of queer people through the years.
Next spring, the stories will be presented in churches all around the country as testament to a difficult history that must not repeat itself, as well as to the pain, struggle and strong will of people to gain recognition, freedom and human rights.
At 2 pm, the rainbow flag will be raised outside churches all around Iceland.
