Dear friends
As of this year, and for the next three years, Reykjavik Pride is officially one of Reykjavík’s key city festivals. This honor shows that Reykjavik Pride has established itself as a key event in the festival calendar in Reykjavik and reaffirms all the hard work performed by hundreds of volunteers throughout the years to advance local LGBTIQ culture, diversity and human rights.
The theme of Reykjavik Pride for 2017 is ‘LGBTQI art and artists’, celebrating the rich culture of Icelandic LGBTQI artists who are known for boldness and for using their art as a platform to ask uncomfortable questions about their life and identity. Their contribution has been monumental in changing minds and changing hearts towards LGBTQI people in the Icelandic society. This year’s schedule includes a wide variety of events, such as film screenings, concerts, photo exhibitions and literature events that will hopefully give a small taste of what Icelandic LGBTQI culture has to offer, along with a wide variety of educational events.
Finally, those who want to participate in the Pride Parade might be interested in the new ‘PrideFund’, a financial support for parade floats meant to cover the cost of transport, design and material. For more detail visit reykjavikpride.is.
Happy Pride!
