For many years, Reykjavík Pride has hosted various educational events on issues related to LGBTQIA+ people, their visibility and rights. In 2023, these important events take place at our Rainbow Conference on Thursday 10 August at our PRIDE CENTRE in Iðnó by the Reykjavik Pond.
The conference is supported by Rannís – Erasmus+.

Solidarity between women’s rights movements and queer movements in times of backlash
This event will delve into discussions about how women’s rights movements and LGBTQIA+ movements can stand together, and combat anti-trans propaganda and misinformation, and how these movements can work together to eradicate it in Iceland before it gets a foothold in discussions about equality.

Masks: a Censored Exhibition – a Discussion on the Censorship of Queer Art and Artists
A discussion about censorship of queer art now that forty years have passed since the art exhibition GRÍMUR by visual artists Göran Ohldieck and Kjetil Berge was subjected to censorship at the Nordic House.

(Queer) Dating with Disabilities
A panel discussion by diverse members of the community about the challenges and opportunities of starting and maintaining a romantic relationship as an LGBTQ person with a disability. The session will begin with a brief introductory lecture and conclude with questions from the audience. The whole session will be in English and is wheelchair accessible.

Queer Youth Work
In the last few years, there has been a great growth in queer youth work as social events for queer youth are offered at more and more places. This event will focus on the challenges and importance of queer youth work.

Pleasure in diverse bodies
Pleasure in diverse bodies will consist of an open panel discussion and an interactive discussion with the audience. The goal is to create a space for diverse people within the queer community to discuss pleasure, factors that can affect pleasure, and how to break out of the heteronormative sexual script. Emphasis will be placed on the event reflecting the diversity within the queer community; specifically in regards to age, disability, race and queerness.

Queer Refugees in Queer Utopias
This session is about a research project: Queer Refugees in Queer Utopias: Inclusions and Exclusions. The project focuses on experiences of reception, integration, and deportation in Iceland and in a transnational context, with a particular focus on Italy and Greece, countries that Iceland deports SOGIE refugees to. Part of the project involves comparing data with data from The Netherlands. The session discusses preliminary findings based on interviews with refugees in Iceland, as well in Italy and Greece and with practitioners in legal and social support practices in Iceland and the Netherlands.

Experts in the field of LGBT sports will answer the most relevant questions of regarding sporting community today.

Queer in All Shapes and Sizes – Panel discussion on Body Dysmorphia, Discrimination, and Positivity in the queer community
Body shaming of all kinds is unfortunately still present in the queer community. In this panel hosted by Bangsafélagið, we will discuss issues related to body positivity, inclusivity in the queer community. Participants in this panel have agreed to share their experience with discrimination and exclusion in relation to their appearance.
